The CLTA SIG LAS seeks to empower Chinese language educators by fostering leadership capacity, promoting sustainable practices, and creating a dynamic platform for collaboration, mentorship, and advocacy. Our mission is to strengthen the foundation of Chinese language education and ensure its long-term growth across diverse educational contexts with the following objectives:
- Empower Educators: Build leadership capacity and provide tools for sustainable program development to support long-term success and professional growth.
- Promote Sustainability: Advance innovative strategies, resource development, and collaborative solutions that sustain Chinese language programs.
- Create a Collaborative Platform: Offer a space for educators to exchange ideas, share best practices, and engage in research to address critical challenges.
- Amplify Advocacy: Represent the collective voice of Chinese language educators, advocating for equity, visibility, and policy support within and beyond Chinese L2 context.
- Advance Innovation and Equity: Support inclusive practices and ensure access to high quality Chinese language education.
- Foster Mentorship: Connect experienced educators with emerging leaders to build confidence and strengthen professional networks.
Through these initiatives, the LAS will drive innovation, strengthen leadership and advocacy, and promote equitable, sustainable growth in Chinese language education.
Activities
- Forge Alliances: Coordinate with the CLTA Special Task Force on Advocacy to identify shared interests and build actionable joint plans.
- Mobilize Governance: Establish a dedicated committee to spearhead the design, planning, and implementation of core activities.
- Cultivate Community: Maintain an active website and WeChat group to foster ongoing professional exchanges and inspiration.
- Amplify Voices: Host regular webinars focused on developing, discussing, and advocating for leadership and sustainability in the field.
- Nurture Talent: Launch a Mentorship Program that matches mentors and mentees based on self-identified professional goals.
- Elevate Presence: Organize targeted panels on leadership and sustainability at major CLTA and ACTFL annual meetings.
- Foster Connection: Host dedicated social gatherings at CLTA annual meetings to strengthen member networking and community bonds.
- Deepen Skills: Deliver dynamic online and in-person leadership camps and workshops.
- Expand Outreach: Coordinate with external professional organizations to leverage shared resources and broaden institutional impact.
- Curate Knowledge: Develop a digital repository of open-access resources, case studies, and best practices dedicated to leadership and sustainability.
