Academic Program Senior Specialist (Columbus, OH)

Department: Arts and Sciences | East Asian Languages and Literatures

The successful candidate will have a portfolio of interconnected responsibilities and will work closely with the Chair and other departmental faculty to direct and coordinate the Chinese language program (5 levels of language instruction). The domains of responsibilities include the following: (1) Support the departmental mission of fostering career-oriented proficiency (undergraduates) and pedagogical preparation (graduate students) through teaching Chinese language courses, training and supervising GTAs, engaging in curriculum development, and leading study abroad programs. (2) Enable the smooth functioning of the Chinese language program through administrative oversight (scheduling, assessment) and serve as point of contact for student concerns. (3) Strengthen the recruitment of majors, double majors, and minors through various forms of outreach.

Minimum Education Required
Master’s Level Degree in East Asian Languages and Literatures or related field is required.

Additional Education Desired
A PhD in any of the following subfields within Chinese Studies is desirable: Linguistics, Pedagogy, Literature, Performing Arts, Cultural Studies, or related field.

Evidence of professional development in relation to language instruction (certificates, workshops, etc.) is desirable

Required Qualifications
At least near-native fluency in Mandarin Chinese and in English

3 years of prior Chinese language teaching experience in an Anglophone college setting (for example, as a Graduate Teaching Associate, Lecturer, Teaching Faculty, Assistant Professor, etc.).
