Description
The Chinese Language Program (CLP) in the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at Columbia University invites applications for a full-time Lecturer in Chinese Language to begin Fall 2026. This is a renewable, multi-year appointment contingent upon successful review.
The successful candidate will teach two to three Chinese language courses per semester at various proficiency levels, in consultation with the CLP Director and department colleagues. Additional responsibilities include contributing to curriculum design, assessment, materials development, and placement testing, as well as assisting with the design and implementation of co-curricular events and faculty development activities.
Qualifications
The successful candidate should have:
A Master’s degree in linguistics, applied linguistics, language pedagogy, or a closely related field; a Ph.D. is preferred.
Native or near-native proficiency in modern standard Chinese and fluency in English.
Demonstrated excellence in teaching Chinese at the college or university level, and the ability to develop instructional materials both independently and collaboratively.
Familiarity with technology-enhanced and AI-supported instruction.
Evidence of ongoing professional development and a strong commitment to inclusive excellence in teaching and learning.
