Assistant Instructional Professor in Chinese Language (Chicago, Illinois)
Position Description
The Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations and the College at the University of Chicago invite applications for a one-year position as Assistant Instructional Professor in Chinese language for the academic year 2025–2026, with a start date of September 1, 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. This is a non-renewable, one-year appointment to fill an immediate curricular need.
Responsibilities include both teaching and service duties. Teaching consists of six language courses across three quarters at all levels of the language. Service duties may include assisting with the training of course assistants; outreach and cultural activities; or assistance with student placement in the Chinese language.
Salary Range or Pay Grade:
Assistant Instructional Professor: $73,117-78,965; This base pay range is for a nine-month academic appointment.

Qualifications
Applicants are required to have at least one year of previous language teaching experience at the college or post-secondary level, preferably at a North American institution. An M.A. degree or equivalent is required. A Ph.D. in a related field is desirable. Applicants must demonstrate sufficient language proficiency for teaching Chinese in a university context, e.g. through an ACTFL-certified result at the Superior level or higher, or through receipt of an advanced degree earned in a Chinese-language context.
