Visiting Assistant Professor in Chinese (Waterville, ME)

The Department of East Asian Studies at Colby College invites applications for a visiting assistant professor in Chinese for the year 2022-2023. Applicants for the position should demonstrate a primary focus on teaching Chinese language courses and have received at least a master’s degree (PhD is preferred) in second language pedagogy, Chinese language, literature, linguistics, or a related field. Native or near-native competency in the Chinese language and fluency in English are required.

Preference will be given to applicants with significant teaching experience at all levels of the Chinese language at post-secondary institutions in the United States. Knowledge of and experience in current trends in second/foreign language teaching methodologies and meaningful application of technologies in language instruction are highly desirable.

Duties include teaching Chinese language classes at any levels, holding regular office hours, attending events of the Chinese Language Program, and working with East Asia faculty on curriculum development and program articulation. Candidates should be able to demonstrate evidence of excellence in teaching to a diverse student audience and contribution to the campus community. The teaching load is five courses over the academic year.
