Interim Associate Director (Remote)
Princeton in Beijing, the country’s premier Chinese-language summer program, seeks applications for the position of Interim Associate Director for the summer 2022 session, which will be held online. The Interim Associate Director will assist the Faculty Director with the core program functions. Duties will be limited to part-time in the spring, and will move to full-time at a point to be determined in consultation with the successful candidate. Any candidate will need to be available full-time from June through August. Reporting to the Faculty Director, the responsibilities of this position will include:
• Assisting the Faculty director in the recruitment, training and supervision of teachers
• Coordinating curricular and co-curricular events for the duration of the program
• Providing student support and managing day-to-day student concerns
• Teaching responsibilities
• Assisting the Program Manager with marketing and outreach
• Other duties as assigned
Required qualifications:
• Ability to work remotely for the entirety of the program (approximately 10 weeks summer 2022, June through August)
• Native or near-native fluency in modern standard Chinese, both written and spoken
• Native or near-native fluency in spoken and written English
• Advanced degree (Ph. D required) in a field relevant to teaching Chinese as a second language
• A record of demonstrated excellence in all levels of Chinese language teaching experience
• Experience training or supervising other language instructors
• Sensitivity to the needs of a cohort with diverse identities, backgrounds, and life experiences
Preferred qualifications:
• Previous teaching experience in the Princeton in Beijing Program
• Experience teaching in or running an intensive immersive study abroad program
• Knowledge of best practices in student support, or willingness to learn
