Assistant Professor of Instruction in Chinese (Austin, TX)

The Department of Asian Studies at the University of Texas at Austin invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Instruction in Chinese language, beginning September 1, 2023. This full-time, non-tenure-track position carries the possibility of annual renewal, contingent upon job performance, the continued needs of the department, and the availability of program funding. The successful candidate will teach two or three Chinese language courses (12 contact hours per week in the classroom) each semester. Located at the flagship campus of the University of Texas System, our department offers a congenial and exciting context for teaching and research in the languages and cultures of East Asia. In addition to working closely with students in our department, the successful candidate will also have the opportunity to participate fully in the rich intellectual life of the University of Texas at Austin.

The minimum requirements are an MA in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language, foreign language acquisition, pedagogy, linguistics, or a related field; professional proficiency in Mandarin Chinese and English; willingness to participate in team teaching and program affairs. Preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience at the post‐secondary level in North America and with demonstrated ability to teach a variety of levels. We are especially interested in candidates who will contribute to diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education through their teaching, research, and service.
