Academic Specialist, Pedagogy, IU Chinese Language Flagship Center (Indiana University Bloomington, IN)

The Chinese Flagship Center at Indiana University Bloomington is seeking a full-time Pedagogy Specialist. This position has a flexible starting date, with the expectation that a selected finalist will begin in this role no later than August 1, 2023. The Chinese Flagship Program provides undergraduate students from any school or major at IU the opportunity to attain professional-level language proficiency in Mandarin through classroom learning, co-curricular activities, and overseas study and internship including an entire “Capstone” year in China. The Pedagogy Specialist fulfills a critical role to the program’s success by providing pedagogical expertise and assisting the Director with the program’s academic activities. The position also provides limited administrative support.

The position teaches at least one (1) course per year offered by the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures. Provides collaborative leadership in developing and implementing the center’s academic activities including curricular, co-curricular, and overall program design; instructor recruitment and training; and student application reviews. Provides limited administrative support in areas including grant writing, program articulation with administrative structures, program promotion and recruitment, and center staff supervision.

PhD preferred in Chinese, linguistics, language pedagogy, or related fields. Familiarity with assessment and ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines; training and teaching experience in Chinese pedagogy; previous administrative experience is desirable.
